A Statewide Network of Care.
The Rhode Island Free Clinic (RIFC) operates a network of doctors across the state who will see patients in their offices. Since December 2008, we have signed up 92 primary care and 32 specialist providers to join the RIFC network. As the word of our successful network spreads, more physicians are signing up each month. Physicians now offer treatment in Providence and 16 other communities throughout Rhode Island.
The primary care physician serves as a patient’s medical home for the duration of treatment. If a patient needs follow up x-rays, lab work or prescription medications, these will be provided through the RIFC.
Potential patients interested in taking part in this program come to the RIFC in Providence for an initial visit. Once a patient’s income is verified to be at 150% or below of the poverty level, they will be referred to one of the physicians in the network. Patients who are not eligible for this network will be referred to an appropriate source for treatment.
Despite our growth, we still need your help! As a physician partner office, you can help us set the standard for community service and make a difference by getting involved. Even if you just see one or two patients, your assistance would help us continue to provide much needed comprehensive care to the uninsured of Rhode Island.
Physicians who are interested in becoming volunteers within the network can get more information by contacting Marlene LeBlanc, our Provider Relations Representative, at 401.274.6347 ext. 322 or at mleblanc@rifreeclinic.org.

As a Regional Medical Director for United Healthcare, Dr. Curtis Mock is in his second year as a volunteer physician at RIFC. After learning about the Free Clinic when his daughter began volunteering, Dr. Mock started devoting time to provide medical services to RIFC patients. "The most important thing about being here," he asserts, "is the opportunity to provide quality care to those who otherwise wouldn't have access to care." His advice to young adults and aspiring doctors is to come and volunteer. Take the opportunity to make a difference in the community!
Dr. Mock is one of over 150 physicians who have donated countless hours and have shared their expertise with the Clinic. Their compassion and commitment have allowed RIFC to provide nearly 1,100 patients with both primary care and specialist services. We are all very grateful for their generous efforts.
